I've been selling specialty toys online through the Yahoo! Store platform for over four years. I customized my first Yahoo! store www.NogginFactory.comby myself by reading books and finding resources online. This proved to be a huge "time suck" and it distracted me from the important aspects of running my online business as well as my retail storefront.
Still not happy with my site I searched the internet for a Yahoo! Store Designer to take over the design responsibilities. I settled on one of the largest Yahoo! Store Design companies on the web and figured I was in good hands. The issues started almost immediately. After I signed the contract it became clear that I was just a number in their customer database and since I wasn't spending tens of thousands of dollars I was on the lower end of their priority list. Any changes that I wanted made had to go through my sales person then to the project manager then to the programmer and back again. I lost weeks just because of the way they did things. I settled on a semi custom template and when the site (www.NogginFactoryToys.com) was finished I started looking for a new Yahoo! Store Designer.
I came across Ventura Web Design and gave them a call about implementing a left nav flyout on my site. Knowing that they were part of the Yahoo! Developer Network was great but I really wanted to ask a lot of questions before I started anything with a new Yahoo! Store Designer. I was floored when the owner of the company was the one who returned my phone call. He answered every one of my questions and genuinely cared about my business and making it more successful.
After the install of my new left nav there was a slight issue with the flyout delay. I called Ventura Web Design and actually was able to speak to the programmer. The issue was fixed in a matter of minutes! That would have never happened with the other company.
I still have a lot of work to do on my website and I feel fortunate that I have Ventura Web Design as my Yahoo! Store Designer.
